The summer may be just around the corner but the holiday lead-up is often quite busy and very stressful! This year, our handy tips will help you to clear your desk before the summer break and leave the office stress-free.

D-30: Make a to-do list

Organise your list by prioritizing the most important tasks which need to be completed before your holidays.
Identify the tasks which need to be taken care of during your holidays and add the names of your colleagues who will handle them.

D-20: Team review

Set up a meeting with your colleagues and explain to them which duties you'd like them to handle for you. Send them a file which lists all the tasks to be handled, deadlines and contact people.

D-15: Notify your contacts

Inform your suppliers, customers and colleagues well in advance of your holiday dates and provide them with the necessary contact details. Don't forget to let your manager know too!

D-10: Sort out and tidy your desk

A tidy desk will help you to work out what is left to do before you leave and means that your colleagues won't need to disturb you during your holidays if they can't find a file. Get rid of unnecessary documents and sort out your computer files: this will make life so much easier for you when you return to the office!

D-3: Start to plan for your return to the office now

Make a new to-do list with prioritized tasks for when you return to the office. This will reduce back-to-the-office stress and help to focus your mind. Keep your first day back free so that you can get organised. Do not plan any meetings!

D-day: Almost there!

You just have one (tiny) task left to do before you can happily leave for your holidays: set your out-of-office voice and digital messages. The messages should include the names and contact details of the people who will replace you during your leave. In doing so, this reassures your contacts and shows them that you are organised. Don't forget to give your colleagues your login and password details.

D + 1: Enjoy yourself and switch off!

Make the most of your downtime to relax and spend time with your loved ones. Switch off from the office and don't check your emails or mobile: why not try a digital detox!
